Hi everyone! I hope you're all still doing well! This week I wanted to share a fun(ny) video with you that talks about your "Circle of Control." If you don't know what this is, your circle of control helps you understand the things that you DO and DO NOT have control over in your life. Why is this important? Well, because when you know the difference it helps you solve your own problems, or, even better, avoid them altogether! Now, that doesn't mean the adults in your life (including me, your school counselor) aren't still here to help you out when you need us, but it doesn't mean you can add this to your toolbox of problem solving skills! Watch this video and think of all the things YOU actually have control over, and see if you can practice letting go of the things you don't! Take care!!!

During a time in our country when it seems like so many people are divided and constantly disagreeing with one another, is always a good idea to remember to also find ways to be kind. It's amazing how much even a small act or word of kindness can cheer someone up. Watch the Kindness Boomerang in action in this short video and see if you can think of little ways to spread some kindness of your own. I'd love to hear what you did for someone else! Starting Monday, January 11th through the 29th, DCS students will be participating in a Read-A-Thon. Last week, all student should have received their individual login information and set up their accounts. On Monday, they should start entering in the number of minutes they read both during school and on their own time. This should be a fun way to for them to challenge themselves to read more and further develop their literacy skills. Classroom based rewards are being giving to students for reaching certain reading minute goals. (See attached flyer for available prizes, which are cumulative!) We are also doing this as a fundraiser for both our school and a local community shelter, McHenry House. This Read-a-Thon is being sponsored by the 7/8 students in our California Junior Scholarship Federation (CJSF) group. They hope this fundraiser will bring in $300 for McHenry House with all remaining funds going towards helping out the Tracy Learning Center. Please ask your child about this event and have them share their accounts with you so get access to all the Read-a-Thon information and resources. Thank you ~DCS-CJSF
